The .30-30 Winchester cartridge was first marketed in 1895 for the Winchester Model 1894 lever-action rifle. The “Thirty-thirty” as it is most commonly known was offered alongside the .25-35 as the United State’s first small-bore sporting rifle cartridge. The .30-30 is popular among deer hunters is light recoil compared to something like the .30-06 as well as the low cost of most rifles chambered in this cartridge.
